Daisy's Head

Let me tell you all a story about a little girls misfortunate infection she aquired from one of her beloved Guinea Pigs(this is to be sung to the tune of Harper Valley PTA).

Wayyy back in January on the 26th, I noticed a slight rash on her right temple that resembled a patch of excema. Off to the Dr's we went, where he diagnosed Exzema, and prescribed a cortisone based cream. At this first appt, I asked if she had school sores by any chance as a good friends 3 boy's had just been through it and she'd been in contact with them, he assured me it wasn't. About a week later after it spreading and me stopping the use of said cortisone, we went back again, where he said it was now fungal and prescribed Canesten or Lamisil, I had Canesten at home so started with that, 48hrs later it had spread even more, so we went back to the Dr's but saw our regular GP(George) this time.

George diagnosed School Sores, which had gotten infected and turned into Impetigo, and had spread up into her hair line and beyond and with the administering of the previous meds, it was a nasty looking mess of scab and creams. So she was put onto her first bottle of Antibiotics. Well 6 weeks later, 3 bottles of antibiotics later, numerous Dr appts to have the very large scab removed and no improvement, George decided to send us off to the Childrens to see a Paed specialist. We got an appt for the Dermatology clinic through A&E for the next day, went back in again to be told after approx 10 Medico's had looked at her "interesting" head that she didn't have Impetigo at all, but had Tinea Capitis, which was transferred by said Guinea pig and therefore wasn't contagious in any shape nor form, yet she'd missed the last 8 weeks of kinder/daycare and was basically locked away infront of the tv.

Prescribed Griseofulvin some foul tasting concoction the chemist came up with. Have been taking it for the last 6 weeks, and had a follow up appt on Wednesday. She's onto her 3rd and last bottle, with an appt to go back in 3months, if I think it's necessary. This is what I wrote on a forum yesterday about it.

"It's healing, almost all the scab is gone, it's still quite pink/raw looking though and hasn't reduced in size. She's on her last bottle of oral anti fungals and once this is finished shouldn't need any more. Has to go back to RCH in 3months if I think she needs it, but if it's healing nicely I can cancel it. I asked them how long it would take for the whole wound area to clear up, they estimate approx 6months and once it does we'll be able to tell if it's done any permanent damage to her hair follicles and whether the hair will grow back.

If the hair doesn't grow back, then she'll either just have to deal with the bald spot or style her hair to camaflouge it, until she's older when they can perform some plastic surgery, to reduce the size of the scarring and bring the hairline down a bit. But that's further in the future and currently it doesn't bother her in the slightest."

And now for some pics of her delighful head.

After looking at all the pics, that's a huge difference.
